    Embroidery Hoops Buying Guide - About Machine Embroidery Hoops

    We have two types of hoops available for single and multi-needle machines

    • The Snap Hoop Monster - For non-adhesive stabilizers
    • The Sticky Hoop - For adhesive stabilizers

    These differences are important because they are not interchangeable. Using an adhesive on the Snap Hoop Monster will prevent it from sliding smoothly across the machine bed. The Sticky Hoop should only be used when an adhesive is applied to the back of the frame. We have snap and sticky hoops for Baby Lock, Bernina, Brother, Husqvarna-Viking, Janome, Pfaff, and SWF machines.

    Snap Hoop Monster

    The Snap Hoop Monster is an easy-to-use magnetic embroidery frame designed for user-friendly fabric hooping and alignment. Its patented design simplifies multiple hoopings and ensures precise alignment for various fabrics, including terry cloth, bulky fleece, quilt sandwiches, and heavy fabrics. It is excellent for continuous and allover embroidery, allowing for adjustments. It is designed to reduce hand strain and prevent hoop burn. The frame enables stitching to the fabric's edge and is available in multiple sizes.

    Magnetic hoops securely hold your fabric and stabilizer together with a flat, firm grip. Because the fabric lies flat between the frames, it can be pulled, adjusted, and repositioned without causing fabric distortion.

    The Snap Hoop Monster Package Includes:

    • One metal base frame with machine attachment
    • One magnetic top frame
    • One magnetic safety shield
    • Four adhesive centering rulers
    • Target stickers for planning embroidery layout
    • Printed instructions

    Sticky Hoop

    The Sticky Hoop has a flat metal frame that streamlines trimming for applique and in-the-hoop projects. There are no embroidery rings to interfere with trimming. Materials can extend beyond the sewing field, in effect making the Sticky Hoop "Sideless". Use a pre-cut, tearaway adhesive stabilizer for the best results.

    The Sticky Hoop Package Includes:

    • Sticky Hoop frame
    • Five sheets of Peel 'n Stick tear-away adhesive stabilizer pre-cut for your hoop size
    • Four adhesive centering guides

    Selecting Embroidery Hoops

    Knowing the make and model of your machine is crucial. Our brand-specific shopping pages feature charts for popular machines and highlight any limitations, such as the need for upgrade kits or firmware updates.

    Hoop Sizing

    Some hoops are listed using millimeters (mm), and some are listed using inches (In.). Even for those accustomed to using inches, measurement is much easier and precise using millimeters when determining hoop size. This is because inches often convert to improper fractions.

    It is important to note there are three dimensions to consider:

    • The described dimensions - Industry standards allow dimensions to be rounded for inches and metric
    • The sewing field dimensions - your project's surface area
    • The inside dimensions of the hoop itself

    For the best results stabilizing your embroidery design, it's generally best to use the smallest hoop that fits. For instance, a 4" x 4" hoop is ideal for a 3" x 2" design, to ensure the fabric is held tightly. While a 5" x 7" hoop can be used, the 4" x 4" hoop offers better tension. There are scenarios where a larger hoop might be necessary, such as:

    • Incorporating multiple designs
    • Buttons and pockets that interfere with a smaller frame
    • Aligning a design that nearly fills the hoop

    Example

    The Snap Hoop Monster - Square - 4" x 4" - Magnetic Frame for Baby Lock is described as 4 inches by 4 inches, but its sewing field is actually 3.94 In. x 3.94 In. (100 mm x 100 mm). There is a third set of dimensions to consider - The inside dimensions of the hoop itself. The inside dimensions of the 4" x 4" hoop are larger than the sewing field area with an actual length of 6.10 In. x 4.93 In. (155 mm x 125.2 mm).
